Jost Heritage House

About the Jost House

Samuel Sparrow, merchant and ship owner possessed the property from 1786-1787.  Thomas Jost, a Halifax merchant, bought the property in 1836 and his descendents remained there until 1971.

The basement has been restored to the original 18th century kitchen.  Historical Victorian artifacts are featured on the ground floor.  The museum also exhibits collections of local Cape Breton interest, including an early 20th century apothecary (pharmacy), a marine room reflecting our maritime past, a room dedicated to the Jost family's history, and a Victorian room.
